International News Academy is a modern news academy based on understanding of international journalism that comprises doyen journalists and distinguished academicians.

Today, nature of the news and journalism profession is changing rapidly and differences between missions of professionals who have different tasks lose their significance. “One-way journalism” has yielded up to “multi-tasking journalism” which is competent in all concepts related the news, technologies and practice techniques.

Starting from this point of view, International News Academy aims to train journalists who get up to date, have the understanding of multi-tasking journalism and competent.

COURSE CONTENTS

DEFINITION OF JOURNALISM AND NEWS - Asst. Prof. Hakkı Öçal The participants, who centralized the basic concepts of journalism and news and the relationship of the concepts to each other, aim to gain a contemporary perspective on journalism and news, such as the factors that make up the value of news, the choice of news, the choice of source, the writing of news and the journalism ethics. THE IMPORTANCE OF NEWS AND JOURNALISM IN TODAY – Instructor Ali Kırca It is aimed to enrich the knowledge and attitudes of the participants with the related concepts and examples together with the announcement of new meanings and values that today's news and journalism have gained in the framework of the necessity of the news, which is an integral part of the contemporary social structures. NEWS RESOURCES AND THE WAYS OF GATHERING NEWS – Instructor Mehmet Güler The theoretical knowledge about journalism and news will be reinforced by the participants, who will acquire necessary skills for recognizing news sources, evaluating these sources and selecting between them; to manage the information flow from the sources and to learn the accumulation correctly. NEWS WRITING, TITLE & SPOT, NEWS ENTRY – Asst. Prof. Hakkı Öçal With the fact that the presentation to the target audience is as important as the subject at least, this course introduces participant news headlines, the subtleties of writing spot and news entry, as well as introducing news promoting elements and news writing techniques. TYPES OF NEWS – Instructor Rıdvan Akar It is aimed that participants should have an idea about the specific structural features of each news item, such as routine news, asparagas news, jumping news, trap news, special news, embargo news and many other news items. At the beginning of the targeted achievements, participants understand how news gathering and news writing processes differ according to the news item. REPORTAGE AND INTERVIEW IN NEWS – Instructor Rıdvan Akar This course is to inform participants about all the production stages of the correct interview by conveying the characteristics that determine the value of the interview, which is one of the most remarkable elements of the aimed news reporting. In the course, the definition of the interview, the interview features and similar titles according to the topics and presentation formats are discussed and the participants are aimed to be able to interview and to transfer the interview to the reader in the best way. NEWS AGENCIES – Instructor Mehmet Güler There is no doubt that news agencies are at the center of local and global news flow. This makes the news agencies and the dynamics of agency journalism an indispensable part of the vocational training of a well-equipped journalist. Participants in the news agencies course will know the leading news agencies of the world, how they operate from economics and politics to sports and art, and how they are all effective on all social impact mechanisms and understand the causes of this situation. ETHICS IN NEWS – Faruk Bildirici While the definitions of news and journalism are reshaping the effects of technology, we assume that there is a locomotive function of social change. We are witnessing ethical values which are compassionate for a competent journalist. Participants gain the intellectual depth of the ideal journalist ethics and the journalism ethics, and the main aim of the course within this awareness.

BASICS OF NEWS WRITING TECHNIQUES – Instructor Rıdvan Akar The aim of this course is to provide necessary knowledge for contemporary news writing techniques. In the course, the elements that need to be taken care of in order to receive clear, understandable and attractive news texts are touched upon, and it is aimed to show the mistakes that news writers frequently fall in today and participate in their own editorial views. NEWS WRITING BY ITS TYPE: DOMESTIC NEWS – Instructor Mehmet Güler This course focuses on understanding the factors that participants need to take into consideration when taking news of different types of news in the light of news, journalism and news writing processes. It focuses on the writing process of news collected from within the country and named as "domestic news" in journalism terminology. NEWS WRITING BY ITS TYPE: FOREIGN NEWS – Instructor Ayşe Karabat The special conditions encountered during their production, and the mechanisms of action involved in the news production process with the language difference between foreign sources and the sources from which they are gathered; the types of news that require utmost attention and devotion, as well as unusual variables that need to be considered in the process of writing and publishing news. It is aimed to equip the necessary knowledge for successfully managing the production processes of foreign news. THE PURSUIT AND REGULATION OF NEWS – Instructor Ali Koçak You've got a topic you can make news with. What would a good journalist do? Does he/she immediately tell the story, or would he/she try to reach new details that would increase the value of the news? Participants will have the chance to listen to the experiences they have accumulated throughout their professional life in the first place, in the news story and news organization, which is one of the most important talents of journalists. ELEMENTS TO SUPPORT NEWS – Instructor Çağla Öztek The news gathered from the right sources, with the right approach; it may not be enough to be able to reflect the true value of the news: Sometimes a single photo tells more than one page of a text. Participants will learn about the elements they will support, how to get these elements, how to choose and use them, and how to make the news more valuable.
BASICS OF PHOTOGRAPHY – Asst. Prof. Tolga Hepdinçler This course aims to provide basic information about photography participatory, systematically in the frame of a specific photography ritual. They are the main achievements awaiting the participants to meet with the structural elements of photography and learn to use them as a composition element and become acquainted with the basic tools. CORRELATION BETWEEN PHOTOGRAPHY AND NEWS – Tolga Adanalı Today, photos are the integral elements of newspapers and new media tools. This course, which deals with news and its relation to nature, aims not only to enhance participants' understanding of journalism but also to strengthen their competence in media literacy. The supporting effect of the photo will be transferred to the participant under the roof of ethical and moral responsibilities that the journalist should bear. PHOTO-REPORTER AND THE TECNIQUES OF PHOTO INTERVIEW – Abdurrahman Antakyalı In this course, participants will acquire the opportunity to learn the definition of the photo-reporter to the duties and responsibilities, from the photo-journalist to the ethical obligations that should not be distinguished, to the delicacy of the photo-interview techniques. As part of the course, participants will also acquire the opportunity to learn from the experience of the educator as well as the theoretical knowledge about all parts of the production mechanism of the field of photo-reporter. MULTIMEDIA PROGRAMS (PHOTOS) - Instructor Tanzer Ercanpolat This course focuses on acquiring, managing and using professional requirements on the Adobe Photoshop program. The course covers a wide range of functions from entry level to advanced level such as image formats, decoupage tools, layer systems, layer types and layer mode functions, color models, color correction, texture transfer, smart objects and action through the basic concept of image processing. Beyond this, it is aimed to teach correct and creative visual production in the sense of visual communication design.
CAMERA TECHNIQUES - Asst. Prof. Erkan Büker Participant will learn the location, technical features and golden rules of camera use to the journalistic venues of video-journalism. The course covers the legal limitations and ethical principles to be taken into consideration when transferring an event to the public through moving images. The course aims to provide a basis for video-news production practices for participants. BASIS OF MOVING IMAGE - Asst. Prof. Tolga Hepdinçler Main concepts used in auditory and visual qualification and definition are introduced, basic concepts related to sound and visual are defined and interdisciplinary relations of concepts are explained in this course,. It is intended that participants who are informed about the technological tools and processes that make up the contemporary audiovisual media industry will be able to understand the developments, researches and new approaches in the visual and auditory area. THE IMPORTANCE AND TECHNIQUES OF EDITING IN NEWS - Hamdi İstanbullu This course emphasizes the place and importance of fiction in the light of the course that the participants are supporting on the elements that increase the value of the news, especially for professionals interested in video-news reporting. Participants will have the opportunity to grasp the theoretical introduction to editing techniques as well as all aspects of the educator’s examples. TV JOURNALISM (CONNECTION BETWEEN VIDEO AND NEWS) - Hamdi İstanbullu TV journalism products, which differ from newspapers in terms of preparation, consumption and consumption, are a news production area with original dynamics in this context. The standard for TV journalism is to maintain the text of the news, the basic qualities that video items must bear; Aesthetic approaches to the assembly of video pieces that will bring TV news to life and theoretical information on storytelling events with the help of moving images from the subject of the course. NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN NEWS: SMARTPHONES –DIGITAL DATA TRANSFER TECHNOLOGIES - Kutay Bal This course focuses on smartphones that are the trigger of revolutionary changes in the circulation of information; the transformative influence of news production and consumption, and new forms of journalism. The purpose of the course is to explain in some cases the areas where smartphones are used as a professional tool, in which cases the journalist can make it easier and easier to work, and how the developments in digital data transfer technologies respond to the media sector.
SOFTWARES USED IN NEWS AGENCIES AND NEWS CENTERS - Salih Zeki Sarıdanişmet Participants are aimed to meet current software used by news agencies and news centers in this course. It is at the forefront of the outputs that all participants who want to be involved as a qualified professional in the journalism and media industry who produce themselves in an interactive relationship with the shaping effect of technology should be informed about the functions and structural features of the software used in news reporting. INTERNET JOURNALISM - Ercüment İşleyen It is aimed to define the opportunities the journalists meet and the difficulties they have to take into consideration, as the participants, the emergence of Internet and new media tools become part of the mass communication network. Additionally, it is aimed to convey the features of digitality, interactivity, hypertextuality and awareness which are the nature of internet journalism. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRADITIONAL AND NEW MEDIA - Assit. Prof. Volkan Aytar The difference between traditional media such as newspaper and television news, new media which is shaped by the increase of portable media such as computers and mobile phones and internet usage will be discussed and the daily change of the media will be examined in this course. CONVERGENCE JOURNALISM - Instructor Can Ertuna The algorithmic concept, importance of this concept and the place where new media tools hold in the media ecosystem are the main objectives of the course to learn the economic-political-technological determinants associated with these tools. It aims to examine contemporary practices in the field of journalism and equip participants with basic skills for describing stories in a "convergent" way. SOCIAL MEDIA & CAPTURING TREND - Instructor Nevgül Anbarlılar The course, which takes on a more central role in global information flow, is about the power of the social media to determine the agenda and the nature of social influence mechanisms to which it relates to, aiming to introduce the social tendencies created by the use of new media tools and the manipulative instruments that are effective in the emergence of these trends. SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE IN NEWS - Instructor Çağla Öztek The aim of the course is to show why and how participants can use social media Within the scope of social media, it is aimed to project the use of these processes in reporting processes, the threats and possible mistakes of journalists, the issues to be taken into account when reaching the target audience through social media, and the management of digital outputs that arise from the interaction with readers and news. USER BASED CONTENT AND CITIZEN JOURNALISM - Dr. Tirşe Erbaysal Filibeli The participants will view the opportunities and risks, with the structure of citizen journalism that has emerged thanks to the opportunities offered by new media tools, the history of the Internet, the concept of Web 2.0 and its effects on the digital world, the democratization of information and the acquisition of new forms.
